The Tampa Bay Lightning is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous teams in the NHL. Recently winning back-to-back Stanley Cups, the Lightning were hoping for a repeat but came up short, losing to the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup final.
The Lightning is battling with the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2nd spot in the Atlantic Division with a 35-17-3 record. The Lightning is looking at what moves will help them compete for the Stanley Cup ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Surprisingly one name has popped up in trade talks according to Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli the Lightning are looking to move defenceman Cal Foote. The Lightning drafted Foote back in 2017 with the 14 overall pick. Foote has not yet developed into the defenseman he was meant to be and the fact that the Canucks have just hired his father, Adam, will definitely spike the interest.
Rutherford and Allvin have openly stated that they were looking for players in their early 20s who had not yet reached the full extent of their potential and Cal Foote certainly fits that profile. Foote has 1 goal, and 2 assists in 24 games this season. Foote is a pending RFA this off-season with an $850,000 cap hit.
Should the Canucks be interested? Seravalli reported that the Lightning was exploring the market, could a pick get the job done? Perhaps a trade for Jack Rathbone could get it done? Would you consider moving Rathbone to acquire Foote?
