LATEST | Coyotes terminating Alex Galchenyuk: The details have emerged
Nearly two weeks after signing him to a one-year contract for the 2023-24 season, the Arizona Coyotes announced that they've placed Alex Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
Full details remain unclear at this time, but according to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, a source has indicated that the Arizona Coyotes have discovered an off-ice situation that was not known to them prior to signing the 29-year-old.
"Regarding Alex Galchenyuk, who is going to have his contract terminated by the @ArizonaCoyotes just 12 days after they signed him.
An NHL source tells ESPN that the Coyotes had discovered an "off-ice situation" impacting Galchenyuk that was previously unknown to the team." Wyshynski said in a tweet.
Galchenyuk, the 2012 third overall pick, was gearing up for his third separate stint with the Arizona Coyotes after playing for them in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons, where he recorded 62 points in 132 games.
When Galchenyuk clears unconditional waivers at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, he'll become an unrestricted free agent, but don't expect him to sign anywhere else immediately.
