There's no question that the Pittsburgh Penguins aren't having the season they were expecting. Heading into the new campaign, there was plenty of optimism that they'd be able to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2022, however, if they don't turn things around quickly, the team might miss out on the post-season for the third consecutive season.
As reported by Taylor Haase of DK Pittsburgh Sports earlier this week, a source informed her that everyone on Pittsburgh's roster is available, aside from captain Sidney Crosby.
With the Penguins potentially getting ready for a sell-off, and the Canucks already linked to defenseman Marcus Pettersson, the two teams could come together as trade partners.
Noah Strang of Daily Hive recently took a look at three options for the Vancouver Canucks, if the Pittsburgh Penguins do go through with moving on from certain players this season as they look to remain competitive in the Sidney Crosby era.
Strang mentions Marcus Pettersson and Matt Grzelcyk as options for Rick Tocchet's group on the blue line, while if they're looking for some depth in the bottom-six, 32-year-old Noel Acciari, who has 65 games of playoff experience, could be a possibility.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks are no stranger to each other on the trade market. Since October 2017, the two have come together to complete three trades, the most recent coming last October when the Vancouver Canucks acquired Mark Friedman and Ty Glover in exchange for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek.
It makes too much sense that the Penguins and Canucks could be trade partners, especially with the Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin connection to Pittsburgh as well. We'll have to wait and see what the coming weeks and months hold for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but don't be surprised if Patrik Allvin brings in someone from the Steel City in a trade before the March 7th deadline.
