LATEST | Canucks make an announcement regarding Hunter Brzustewicz
Hunter Brzustewicz was the Canucks' 75th overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft and is already looked at as the potential steal of this lot. An important injury during his 16-year-old season held him back during his development, and many scouts believe that were only scratching the surface of his game.
In light of their Building Blue feature, in which they introduce the team's top prospect, Brzustewicz was under the spotlight for today's edition. Phil Golding, one of the team's amateur scouts, took the mic and described Hunter's apport to the game:
«A two-way puck-moving defenceman. Plays a very modern game. Excels in transition.»
#Canucks third-round selection from the 2023 #NHLDraft, defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz is this week's Building Blue feature.''
Already projecting a professional physical frame standing at 6'00'' and weighing in at 190 pounds, he is described as an effective puck transitioner and in today's fast-paced game, it's something you can't lack off:
''Hunter Brzustewicz has great puck-moving habits and deception in his game, which enables to be a force in transition. Brzustewicz can constantly make forecheckers miss with fake changes of direction, timely spins, and by moving the puck before they can get to it. He attacks space to fire on net and manipulates defenders to get shots through and opens passing lanes to the slot. ''

The Canucks needed to address their lack of depth on the team's right defensive side. With the latest addition of Tom Willander, Hunter Brzustewicz, Cole McWard and Filip Hronek, in addition to the resurgence of Jet Woo, Filip Johansson and Noah Juulsen, the Canucks have greatly improved their depth charts in that regard.
Brzustewicz has yet to sign his entry-level deal; it's fair to assume, however, that it may come during the team's training camp, depending on how well he does.
