Elliotte Friedman Shares Canucks Intentions of Trading J.T. Miller or Elias Pettersson to Western Conference
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has shared a major development regarding the Vancouver Canucks and the trade market, with the deadline approaching quickly.
With the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season less than two months away, action is expected to pick up in a big way with the potential for some stars to be on the move before 12 pm PT on March 7th.
While it's still a bit uncertain who will be available for trade in the coming weeks, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed last weekend on Hockey Night in Canada that the Vancouver Canucks are exploring the market for J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson.
The report from Elliotte Friedman comes after rumors of a rift between the two players this season.
Given that Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller are both under contract for several years to come, it was initially thought that if things got more serious on the trade front, the Canucks would only move them to an Eastern Conference team.
Well, it looks like the Canucks' stance on that has changed in recent days according to a new report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Vancouver Canucks willing to consider Western Conference teams in trade talks
During the Saturday headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Vancouver Canucks are willing to consider dealing Elias Pettersson and/or J.T. Miller to a Western Conference team.
"Vancouver at Toronto. There's a lot of noise around the Canucks. Basically the thing I can tell you this week is that one of the things the Canucks have indicated with both Pettersson and Miller is they're not shutting off interest from the Western Conference." Friedman said.
He added, "Teams from the West that have reached out have not been told no, that they would be unwilling to deal any particular player to any of those destinations. But still of course, unsure how to handicap how this will go."
It's safe to say that, ideally, the Vancouver Canucks would like to hold onto both Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, but if interest in those players continues to grow in the coming weeks, General Manager Patrik Allvin might have no choice to trade one of them, especially if he gets an offer that's hard to refuse.
