Former Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller left New York Rangers practice early on Monday morning in some pain after getting hurt during a power play drill.
In eight days, the National Hockey League will officially open up the 2025-26 season with an action-packed triple-header with the Florida Panthers raising their Stanley Cup banner vs the Boston Bruins; the New York Rangers open their Centennial campaign against the Pittsburgh Penguins; while the Los Angeles Kings battle the Colorado Avalanche in the late game.
J.T. Miller leaves New York Rangers practice in pain after power play drill
In a social media post on Monday morning, Mollie Walker of the New York Post said that New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller skated off the ice at the team's practice in some pain.
"#NYR J.T. Miller just skated off the ice in some pain..." Walker said.
A couple minutes later, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic shared video of the play that led to J.T. Miller needing to leave practice, with the former Vancouver Canucks forward lunging towards a loose puck during a power play drill and appearing to hurt something in his lower body area.
The video showed Miller favouring his left leg as he skated off the ice and went back to the team's locker room to be evaluated by the Rangers medical staff.
"Oh no: Miller went lunging to save a puck here and came up favoring his leg. You can see he's in pain and he heads off to the locker room. #NYR" Mercogliano said on X.
Miller, a native of East Palestine, Ohio, was traded to the New York Rangers back in January after an alleged feud with now-former teammate
Elias Pettersson in Vancouver.
"We're pleased to announce J.T. Miller as the new captain of the New York Rangers. Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and exemplifies how we want to conduct ourselves both on and off the ice. Congratulations to J.T. and his entire family on an incredibly meaningful achievement and we're confident he will continue to represent our organization with class, commitment, and integrity." Rangers GM Chris Drury said.
An update on J.T. Miller's status is not expected on Monday, as Mollie Walker
reported a short while ago, with the 32-year-old remaining with training & medical staff during the team's post-practice media availability.
