LATEST | Canucks days away from formally clinching a playoff spot
The Vancouver Canucks have played quite well this season, but recently, it's been full of ups and downs. But in a matter of days, the Canucks' play this season could result in what they've been working hard for - a playoff spot.
In an article on Daily Hive, Rob Williams shared that the Vancouver Canucks will be able to clinch a spot in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs as early as Monday night.
If the Vancouver Canucks defeat the Calgary Flames on Saturday night and Los Angeles Kings on Monday night, with one of those coming in regulation, combined with a Minnesota Wild win over St. Louis in any fashion on Saturday, they'll clinch their first playoff spot in four years.
"If the Canucks win both their games, with at least one coming in regulation time, and the Wild beat the Blues in any fashion, Vancouver will clinch a playoff spot." Williams said.
The reason why this scenario needs to happen in order for the Canucks to clinch a playoff spot is because Calgary, Minnesota and St. Louis are the only three teams outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference that can mathematically still catch Vancouver.
Whenever the Canucks clinch a playoff spot, whether that be Monday or another date, it'll be a big moment for the organization and the fan base. It'll also mean that for the first time in nine years, Rogers Arena will host a Stanley Cup Playoff game.
