The Vancouver Canucks were dealt a serious blow this week when top pairing defenceman Filip Hronek left Wednesday's game with a shoulder injury, and questions have already been asked about how they'll deal with his absence.

While for now the Canucks have recalled Mark Friedman to fill in for Hronek, many wonder if the Canucks will be forced to dip into the trade market to find a new partner for Quinn Hughes.

The Daily Hive identified some interesting RHD names that the Canucks could take a look at as a Hroneky replacement - let's go through them.

David Jiricek

Jiricek is one of the most talked about names in the NHL right now, as he's widely believed to be available just over two years after the Blue Jackets took him with the 6th overall pick in 2022. The young D has legit top pairing potential and is a coveted young right shooting D, and due to that there will be no shortage of suitors for him. Also due to that, the price is expected to be HIGH, and the Canucks have reportedly already made an offer that was rejected. If Vancouver wants him, it will likely take a top prospect like Lekkerimäki or Willander, and then some. Jiricek will also take a few more seasons to reach his potential, and may not be the right fit for a contender.

Rasmus Ristolainen

A 6'4 veteran D in Philly who previously played in Buffalo. The 30 year old is paid $5.1 million through the 2026-27 season, and the Canucks could require retention especially if there's any expectation Hronek returns in season. Ristolainen has settled into being a solid depth option after playing as Buffalo's #1 for years. He's a feisty defenceman that has some puck moving ability, but can't be relied on too heavily.

Jacob Trouba

The Rangers captain was in trade rumours all summer, and apparently even nixed a trade to the Detroit Red Wings. He's one of the most punishing hitters in the league, but he's lost a step in recent years and it's hard to argue he's worth the $8 million he is owed this and next season. The Rangers are motivated to make a change on their roster, but in the thick of their competitive window will be reluctant to retain any salary. It's also questionable if Jacob Trouba would waive for a Canadian market.
