Their practice in Montreal on Monday was canceled after team owner Terry Pegula flew to meet with the players amid their slump and it appears that no big trades will be happening anytime soon.
While a big trade might not be happening, it hasn't stopped the Sabres from discussing deals with other teams and it appears one of those clubs they've spoken with is the Vancouver Canucks, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
On Monday morning, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Donnie & Dhali with Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal where he shared that the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres have spoken to each other about trades, but didn't specify which players.
Earlier in the day on his 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman was spit-balling when he suggested a potential deal between Vancouver and Buffalo that featured Elias Pettersson, Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram, but said that this was NOT a trade talked about by both teams.
Rick Dhaliwal shared some really interesting information during his show on Monday, saying that the Buffalo Sabres called the Vancouver Canucks earlier this season about Elias Pettersson when the Swedish forward was struggling.
We still have roughly 80 days to go until the National Hockey League's trade deadline, so there's plenty of time for the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres to circle back for a deal between now and then, whether it be something substantial or something on the depth side of things.
