The National Hockey League's trade deadline is only nine days away and on Wednesday, Sportsnet shared a doozy of a proposal involving the Vancouver Canucks.
Sportsnet proposes massive three-team trade involving Vancouver Canucks
In an article on Sportsnet on Wednesday, Ryan Dixon shared a pair of massive trade proposals, both involving the Vancouver Canucks and would see them land Finnish forward Mikko Rantanen.
Rantanen has had a rough start to his tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes and there has been some talk over the last week on whether or not he could be flipped before 12 pm PT next Friday.
In one of Dixon's trade proposals, it would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes and Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders.
As for the cost, the Hurricanes would get Brock Boeser (with 50 percent retained), while the New York Islanders would acquire Elias Pettersson and top prospect Tom Willander.
"Carolina Hurricanes receive: Brock Boeser (50 per cent salary retention), Brock Nelson (50 per cent salary retention).
Vancouver Canucks receive: Noah Dobson, Mikko Rantanen.
New York Islanders receive: Elias Pettersson, Tom Willander."
Unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser is expected to be available for trade and should draw plenty of interest, especially from contending teams around the league before the deadline.
As for Elias Pettersson, while he might have been taken off the trade block following the J.T. Miller trade, it's safe to say the Vancouver Canucks would at least listen to offers, especially given his situation with the club this season.
Tom Willander is a player that it would be hard for the Vancouver Canucks to part with, but if it meant they would be adding someone like Noah Dobson, who you slot in on the top pair with Quinn Hughes and fits in with this contending window, then it would make sense.
However, the odds of Tom Willander being moved between today and March 7th is probably less than five percent.
Elsewhere in terms of their own trade chips, defenseman Carson Soucyis reportedly on the trade block, while pending unrestricted free agent forward Pius Suter is another player that could be moved in order to bring back an asset rather than him walking to July 1st.
2025 has already been a busy year so far for GM Patrik Allvin and it could get even busier over the next nine days.
