The Canucks played their last pre-season tilt against the Edmonton Oilers, and Patrik Allvin just announced a roster move that pretty much confirms the team's line-up.

Akita Hirose headed to Abbotsford

Patrik Allvin just announced that the Canucks had relegated the young defenceman Akito Hirose to the Abbotsford Canucks. It's yet another failed attempt at cracking the Canucks' roster for Hirose who fell short last year as well.

After jumping from the NCAA to the NHL in 2022-2023, Hirose played 7 games with the Canucks collecting 3 assists along the way. In 2023-2024, things didn't come as easy for Hirose, through 33 AHL games he only managed 2 assists and was called up for only 3 NHL games. A concussion during this year's camp kept him from properly showcasing his improvements.

Canucks make their final cuts?

At the moment, everything points toward Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains starting the season with the big club. With Dakota Joshua and Pius Suter sidelined with injuries, the door was open for them to make it with the Canucks and their performances were convincing enough.

The Canucks will be kicking things off on Wednesday the 9th and it'll be extremely intriguing to see how Tocchet deploys his line-up. Will he go for the experienced and steady veteran, or will he go for the higher potential rookie? Tough calls and incoming headaches for Rick Tocchet and Patrik Allvin, that's for sure.
