It was revealed yesterday by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet that Rick Tocchet indeed rejected a contract offer by the Canucks earlier in the season, and he now refuses to negotiate while the season is still in session.
Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin gives Rick Tocchet an ultimatum
Obviously of how the media goes, it caused a lot of speculation that Tocchet was planning in not to return to the Canucks next year after the issues, injuries and lack of success through out this campaign.
«If they want to extend Tocchet, it's going to go into a bigger number than they've paid a coach in quite some time, and how do the Canucks feel about that? I think that's going to be as much the decision for Vancouver as it's going to be anything else,» continued Friedman.
After practice today, Allvin reinforced his desire to have Tocchet return next season, even going as far to say that they will exercise their club option to have him return even if he doesn't necessarily want too.
This management team is addicted to toxicity. Great for content.
Basically telling Tocchet you better sign an extension or we'll make you comeback as a lame duck coach.
Pure comedy.
This could get entertaining. Tocchet has more friends around the league than JR even.
Canucks indicate they want Tocchet behind their bench, with an extension or under team option:
This can be a major point of contestation if they decide to make him return basically against his will. If a contract goes not extended, this will be a major story line during the 2025-2026 season.
