Rick Tocchet & Patrik Allvin's Relationship to Take Turn for the Worse

The Vancouver Canucks are about to be in a tight spot either way as general manager Patrik Allvin has basically given head coach Rick Tocchet no choice but to re-sign a contract unless he wants to have their relationship take a turn for the worse.
It was revealed yesterday by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet that Rick Tocchet indeed rejected a contract offer by the Canucks earlier in the season, and he now refuses to negotiate while the season is still in session.
"I think they've made Tocchet an offer. Obviously that offer didn't get it done...I can't see the Canucks hold Tocchet to the option year if they all agree it's not the right path." Friedman said.

Obviously of how the media goes, it caused a lot of speculation that Tocchet was planning in not to return to the Canucks next year after the issues, injuries and lack of success through out this campaign.
The Canucks now face a costly decision with their leader behind the bench in more way then one as it is reported that he is demanding at least double his current salary.
«If they want to extend Tocchet, it's going to go into a bigger number than they've paid a coach in quite some time, and how do the Canucks feel about that? I think that's going to be as much the decision for Vancouver as it's going to be anything else,» continued Friedman.
After practice today, Allvin reinforced his desire to have Tocchet return next season, even going as far to say that they will exercise their club option to have him return even if he doesn't necessarily want too.

This can be a major point of contestation if they decide to make him return basically against his will. If a contract goes not extended, this will be a major story line during the 2025-2026 season.
