It's been a rough few years for the Pittsburgh Penguins and with the way they've been playing so far in the 2024-25 campaign, they could be on their way to missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third consecutive season.
In recent weeks, Penguins General Manager Kyle Dubas has reportedly made everyone available on their roster, with the exception of Sidney Crosby.
Kyle Dubas has already made a couple of trades since that report came out including a deal that sent Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals for two draft picks, as well as acquiring 23-year-old Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators.
Let's preface this a little by saying that the odds Sidney Crosby leaves the Pittsburgh Penguins are very, very low.
Crosby wants to do whatever it takes to get Pittsburgh back to the top of the National Hockey League and before he retires, hopes to win another Stanley Cup in the Steel City.
However, if the Penguins and Crosby were to agree to go their separate ways and look for a trade, could the Vancouver Canucks be an option? One reporter believes they could be up there as a top destination.
During a recent appearance on Donnie & Dhali, Josh Yohe of The Athletic said that if he was Crosby and a deal were to happen at some point, that the Vancouver Canucks would be a top destination for him.
Yohe mentions the familiarity with his former coach in Pittsburgh, Rick Tocchet, along with Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin, who were in management positions with the Penguins while Crosby has been there.
Yohe did mention that he's had numerous conversations with Sidney Crosby over the years and the future Hall of Famer has expressed his desire to remain with the Pittsburgh Penguins for life and he idolized Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman, two guys who played for only one NHL franchise.
It would be interesting to see if in a couple of years, if the Penguins are still struggling and Crosby does want to be dealt to another team, how much consideration he'd give to the Vancouver Canucks.
If Tocchet, Allvin and Rutherford are all still here in a couple years, which is very likely, then one would have to imagine, as Yohe mentions, that Vancouver could be up there as a top destination for Sidney Crosby.
