In a post on social media on Saturday evening, Sportsnet shared the top-ten leaders in saves in the National Hockey League during the 2023-24 regular season and it featured Vancouver Canucks netminder Thatcher Demko.
Demko comes in at tenth on the last after making 1,369 saves through 51 games in the regular season last season. Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros was first in saves last year with 1,672, 303 more than Thatcher Demko in tenth place.
Demko, 28, had a strong season for the Vancouver Canucks despite dealing with injury issues later in the second half and in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 51 games, Demko had a record of 35-14-2 with a 2.45 goals against average, a .918 save percentage and five shutouts. His performances during the 2023-24 campaign earned him a nomination for the Vezina Trophy, which was ultimately won by Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck.
Canucks fans are looking forward to seeing what Thatcher Demko has in store for the 2024-25 season after recovering this summer from a lower-body injury that sidelined him during the playoffs. Having a fully healthy Demko will be massive for the Canucks' chances at repeating as Pacific Division champions.
