Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks have missed their opportunity as the Minnesota Wild have claimed Travis Dermott off waivers.

The move comes one day after the Edmonton Oilers claimed 24-year-old defenseman Alec Regula off waivers from the Boston Bruins.

Additionally, after being in and out of the lineup all season long, the Edmonton Oilers decided it was the best option to place Travis Dermott on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to the AHL, but there has clearly been a change of plans.

Minnesota Wild Claim Former Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Travis Dermott Off Waivers

Travis Dermott did not clear waivers as expected as NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin has decided he would be a good fit for the blue line depth and claimed him off waivers.

Travis Dermott spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, who acquired him from the Toronto Maple Leafs in March of 2022 for a third-round draft pick.

With the issues surrounding the Vancouver Canucks blue line, there were rumors that Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin could consider bringing back Dermott for the purpose of extending the teams defensive depth.

"Travis Dermott was a guy that was talked about getting younger here (in Vancouver). He can play both the left and right side. The pro scouts and analytic department were excited about him." - Allvin

But, with recent call-up to Mark Friedman and the return of Derek Forbort, it appears that there was no room for Dermott to make any significant room with Vancouver, which is probably best.
