It was initially announced by Sportsnet analyst and NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman that the Minnesota Wild have placed Graeme Clarke on waivers after returning from an injury, and the Tampa Bay Lighting have waived Lukas Svejkovsky's contract for the purpose of termination.
23-year-old Clarke played 3 games in the NHL last season, and after not recording any points, he played the remaining 67 games in the AHL for the Utica Comets. He had quite the season as he scored 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points.
Over his two seasons in the AHL, he has registered 107 points, and with his young age, many team will eb interested in retaining his contract, including the Vancouver Canucks.
Svejkovsky, the 22-year-old centerman and fourth-round pick has only accumulated 20 points in his AHL career so far, and that is across 70 games. It would make sense that the Lighting will be terminated his contract.
In general, if the Canucks should go after anyone, it should be Clarke, he shows tremendous offensive upside at a low cost, and one thing is fore sure, you can never have enough depth and prospects on your roster.
Over the offseason, Clarke was acquired by the Minnesota Wild Minnesota in a trade that sent Adam Beckman to the Devils. Clarke proceeded to sign a one-year, two-way contract extension worth $800,000 per season. If the Canucks put him the minors, he will be paid a lower salary and can continue his development.
