Last season, which was the first of his entry-level contract, Nielsen continued his strong play, registering 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists), 52 penalty minutes and was a minus-14 in 59 games. He went on to add four assists in six games during the Calder Cup Playoffs.
With it being a contract year for Nielsen, he'll need to prove to the Canucks organization that he's worthy of an extension and if he's able to play well to start the year, he could put himself in a good position to be one of the first call-ups from Abbotsford, if an injury occurs on the blueline.
