Less than 12 hours before puck drops on the second game of their California road trip, the Vancouver Canucks have decided to make a roster move that features Aatu Raty, who they acquired in the Bo Horvat trade back in 2023.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks shared that Aatu Raty has been called up from the AHL, while Arshdeep Bains has been sent down to Abbotsford.
Raty, 21, has been off to a hot start in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford. At the time of his call up, the Oulu, Finland native was leading the Abbotsford Canucks in points with seven (three goals, four assists) in eight games and looked ready to come back up to the NHL after starting the season on Vancouver's roster.
As for Arshdeep Bains, he's had a tough few games after scoring his first career NHL goal on October 26th against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since that game, Bains has no points in three contests with one shot and is a minus-three.
Going down to Abbotsford will allow Bains to play big minutes and in all situations after being primarily in a bottom-six role in his seven games with Vancouver so far this season. Bains will give Abbotsford a big boost from an offensive standpoint as well, especially if he's able to replicate the success he had during the 2023-24 campaign.
We'll have to wait and see later on today where Aatu Raty will slot in for tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks, with puck drop set for shortly after 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
