MAJOR | Former Canuck points out what ruined his career
Zack Kassian announced his retirement from hockey 2 weeks ago, but says his career took a turn for the worst after a 2021 fight.
Speaking with Frank Seravalli on Daily Faceoff's "Frankly Speaking" show, Kassian details how a 2021 preseason fight with Zack MacEwen -at that time a Canucks forward- where he was knocked out cold led to him never being the same player.
The human brain, something happens like that... it's very tough to go back to being the same player, Kassian Said.
It's always in the back of your head... you just start thinking a little bit more.
Kassian said being unable to shake that feeling combined with the head injuries he's sustained in his 12 year NHL career ultimately led him to hang up his skates.
The 32 year old is a veteran of 661 NHL games, including 121 games with the Canucks from 2012 to 2015.
While he's done with playing, Kassian says he would like to stay in the game of hockey in the future.
