Reports have emerged today of a 31-year-old man being arrested following an attack on an official during a summer ball hockey league game. Sources confirm that Quebec's North American Ball Hockey Players Association (NBHPA) is facing a significant tragedy.

''All our thoughts go to this referee in our community who will experience very difficult times in the coming days,'' the association said. ''In the wake of the attack, both police and the association called on athletes to play sports with «courtesy and respect towards all participants''

The occurrence took place when the player was ejected from the game before viciously attacking the referee. The referee first took a stick blow to the chest before a two-handed stick swing was directed at his face. The referee suffered a vast extent of injury: a fractured skull, a fractured jaw, and a concussion, adding to the fact that all of his teeth were either displaced or broken. The victim will need facial reconstruction surgeries and is unable to work.

The Quebec City Police confirmed that their investigation was underway, the 31-year-old male was apprehended regarding his actions and will face consequences in a court of law:

''The man was questioned and released on a promise to appear in court on charges of harm with a weapon and causing bodily harm,'' police said in a statement.

As the situation develops, we wish the referee a swift recovery. We will provide further updates on the legal proceedings as more information becomes available.
