The Canucks paid the price, after they lost Patera to the Bruins, many believed that they'd be looking for an easy fix. Like claiming another goaltender on waivers.

With five goaltenders under contract already, there was now way Patrik Allvin was going to have to rush with Thatcher Demko, Arturs Silovs, Kevin Lankinen, Nikita Tolopilo and Ty Young in the team's depth chart. However, Allvin has been poking around, trying to replace Patera, given that Demko is going to be out for a while and that Young was viewed to be the starter in Kalamazoo and not the back up Abbotsford.

No claims for the Canucks and 17 new players on the wire

It was announced that from yesterday's list, no players were claimed, even the former Canucks netminder Spencer Martin.

The NHL announced that the teams had placed an additional 17 names on the waiver wire for the purpose of potential assignment to the their respective AHL affiliates.

With pre-season games coming to an end, the league's general managers will have final cuts to make and the important waiver load should be coming to an end soon.

At the moment, the Canucks could head into the season with their current roster given that Thatcher Demko, Dakota Joshua and Pius Suter are all injured. Once they're back, Allvin will have to take a decision and their some of the team's veterans could wind up on waivers. On the other hand, Arshdeep Bains and Aatu Raty could be sent down only because they don't require waivers as opposed to Nils Hoglander, Kiefer Sherwood, Teddy Blueger, Pius Suter or Daniel Sprong.
