Mikko Rantanen's time with the Colorado Avalanche has come to a close on Friday night as the team has dealt him to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Fans around the National Hockey League have been waiting for the trades to start rolling in and with less than 45 days to do until the deadline, we have quite a big deal underway involving the Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche.

Mikko Rantanen, Taylor Hall traded to the Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are loading up in hopes of making a deep run in the playoffs and hoisting their second Stanley Cup in franchise history in just five months time.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche are finalizing a three-team blockbuster trade that'll see Finnish star Mikko Rantanen and former first-round pick Taylor Hall head to Carolina.

"BREAKING: Sources tell @DailyFaceoff that #GoAvsGo are in the process of trading Mikko Rantanen to #Canes.

Sounds like this is a complex three-way deal and I believe Taylor Hall is also involved in the deal going to Carolina from Chicago." Seravalli said.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman also confirmed on Friday that the Avalanche are dealing pending UFA Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, however there is no extension as part of the deal.

"Mikko Rantanen is going to from Colorado to Carolina" Friedman said.

Rantanen, 28, has spent his entire NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche, registering 681 points (287 goals, 394 assists), 376 penalty minutes and is a plus-90 in 619 games.

The Nousiainen, Finland native help the Colorado Avalanche win their third Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2022, putting up 25 points in 20 games along the way.

With Rantanen set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, the Avalanche were having a tough time trying to sign him to an extension, which is why they've decided to go down the trade route.

More to come.
