In addition to the 45 placed on waivers on Sunday, one player from Saturday's list was claimed. As was first reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks claimed former first-round pick Lassi Thomson off waivers from the Ottawa Senators.
As is always the case to start the season, the order of teams that can place a claim is based off of last season's standings in reverse. That means the Anaheim Ducks, who finished 32nd overall last season, get the first crack at placing a claim on any of the players above, followed by the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks.
If any of the players above go unclaimed on Monday afternoon, they'll be assigned to their respective teams American Hockey League affiliate. AHL training camps begin as early as tomorrow for some teams, which is a big reason why the waiver wire has been very busy this weekend.
