As Bedard walked down the tunnel towards the ice for his rookie lap, along with Kevin Korchinski, both players were not wearing a helmet, which is against the NHL's rules and could land themselves both a fine from the league on Wednesday.
Because it's a special occasion, the Chicago Blackhawks may have told Bedard and Korchinski that they could take to the ice for their rookie lap without a helmet and that the team would cover their fine. You only get one debut in the National Hockey League and want to soak it all in, even if they do get fined.
Bedard, a native of North Vancouver, has a busy start to his NHL career with back-to-back games tonight and tomorrow, before making his Hockey Night in Canada debut on Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal. He'll have to wait until December 13th to face his hometown team and will play in Vancouver in front of friends and family on January 22nd.
Do you think the NHL should waive the fine for Bedard or should he be subject to it like any other player? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
