LATEST | Former First Rounder on the trade market: Already linked to Allvin and the Canucks
It's already been that the Canucks' GM Patrik Allvin had been working the phones heavily with the hopes of finding a partner for the team's captain Quinn Hughes.
They have previously stated that they'd be looking for young players in their early 20s to accelerate their retooling, and a massive statement was just made in that regard.
INSIDER DROPS BOMBSHELL
The Blue Jackets were one of the most active teams on the market over the summer; from the additions of Damon Severson to Ivan Provorov and Adam Fantilli, they are now looking to trade some of their youth, and they fall right into the Canucks' needs.
Frank Seravalli dropped a big piece of information earlier today and even stated names that are on the market for the Jackets:
'Sources say #CBJ have recently engaged in trade dialogue with teams to move a defenseman from their #NHL roster. They've told teams they'd like more flexibility at the position.
Since everyone is asking for a name, the truth is that #CBJ is open to different possibilities as they weigh value. It likely centred around Boqvist, Bean, and, to a lesser extent - based on minutes - Peeke. They'll likely move whomever they find gets them most back.''
The former BlackHawks first-round pick, Adam Boqvist, would be a sizeable addition to the Canucks' d-core. Picked just after Quinn Hughes in 2018, Boqvist has always been described as a Defenseman with an elevated ceiling and could be the kind of project the Canucks' coaching staff would want to get into. Boqvist collected an impressive 24 points in 46 games last year:
' A dynamic offensive defenceman that can carry plays with the puck on his stick. A highly mobile and nimble skater that moves with fluidity, balance, and confidence. Utilizes an active bar and creates turnovers frequently.''
- Elite Prospect
Andrew Peeke, for his part, is much more known for his reliability. More extensive and more challenging, the Jackets' 2nd Round Selection in 2016 is also more experienced. Over the 195 NHL games he's played in, he cumulated 34 points:
'He is big and mobile, using an active stick and mammoth wingspan to fix onrushing opponents into a failed decision. Peeke can also play the power play thanks to his wicked shot and ability to thread the needle.''
- Scouting Report
The Canucks have an obvious right-handed Defenseman need, while the Blues Jackets have a surplus. If the Canucks were to land Boqvist, they'd increased the team's back-end mobility. Peeke, on the other end, probably represents the safest best.
