LATEST | Canucks heavily scouting eastern conference team: Their two intriguing targets have been revealed
The Ottawa Senators' season has not gone how they expected and it could lead to the team to sell off some veterans leading up to the trade deadline in early March.
This could lead the Canucks and Senators to potentially being trade partners in the coming weeks, with Vancouver scouting Ottawa's game on Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens.
According to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali, he believes the Canucks were looking at a pair of Ottawa Senators forwards - Claude Giroux and Vladimir Tarasenko.
"Dhaliwal talking about Canucks scouting the Habs and Sens game:
He wonders if Canucks like Arber Xhekaj.
The other 2 guys they would be watching are Tarasenko and Giroux." Taj1944 said in a post on X. Giroux, 36, would be the tougher of the two to bring to Vancouver for a couple of reasons. For starters, he has one-year remaining on his contract beyond the 2023-24 season with a cap hit of $6.5 million. Secondly, his contract comes with a full no-movement clause, meaning he controls where he wants to go, if anywhere. In 43 games this season, Giroux has 40 points (14 goals, 26 assists).
As for Vladimir Tarasenko, he's on an expiring contract after only signing a one-year deal with the Senators last summer worth $5 million. In 41 games for Ottawa this season, the Yaroslavl, Russia native has recorded 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists), 12 penalty minutes and is a plus-17.
