LATEST | Former NHL defenceman takes a shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been an easy team for fans to pick on given their lack of playoff success, albeit, they made it to the second round this past season and because they haven't hoisted the Stanley Cup in 56 years.
During an appearance on 'Dropping the Gloves' podcast, former National Hockey League defenceman Sheldon Souray took a subtle dig at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"The fans obviously love a good fight, but they also love a slapshot to the top corner on the power play against the Toronto Maple Leafs on a Saturday night." Souray said.
While the quote itself is pretty funny, and might be true for a lot of fans, it's oddly specific, especially since during his career, Souray only scored six goals against the Maple Leafs.
Souray had many battles against the Toronto Maple Leafs during his career, especially during his six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. The Elk Point, Alberta native played against the Maple Leafs a total of 36 times throughout his career and recorded 13 points (six goals, seven assists).
The 47-year-old retired from hockey in 2013 after parts of 13 seasons in the league with New Jersey, Montreal, Edmonton, Dallas and Anaheim.
