The veteran was limited to 91 regular season games over the course of the last three seasons and found himself on free agency looking for the best opportunity.
Looking for veterans to help their inexperience core through the playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had invited Pacioretty to their training camp for a professional try out.
The PTO is only a formality to give the Maple Leafs enough time to figure their salary cap situation out, by the looks of it, a contract is already agreed upon and Pacioretty will be a member of the Leafs before the season starts.
Once viewed as a top 10 winger in the NHL, Pacioretty has a lot to prove to show he still belongs at the NHL level. It wasn't too long ago that the veteran was still considered as a point per game player, in 2021-2022, with the Golden Knights, he registered 19 goals and 37 points through 39 games before going down with an important injury.
He was then traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he was limited to 5 games before signing a one year deal with the Washington Capitals. The American managed 23 points through 47 games with Alex Ovechkin's team.
An opportunity to play alongside some of the NHL's best players in Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander might be exactly what the former Canadiens captain need.
