With the NHL roster freeze set to commence at midnight (December 19th) the rumors surrounding the Vancouver Canucks making a trade are in full swing, and there are 2 NHL wingers they need to consider.
For those who do not know, the NHL roster freeze is basically a mini trade deadline that takes place every year in December.
It is a time where teams are not eligible to make any trades, claim or place players on waivers, as well as make loans to their respective AHL or ECHL affiliates.
After the Vancouver Canucks lost embarrassingly to the Boston Bruins on Saturday, it was made abundantly clear by
Jim Rutherford on CBC's After Hours, that if the Canucks wanted any business being contenders this season, they would have to make some trades and add players.
"We need to add a couple of players to really give ourselves a chance to contend." Rutherford said."
Since then, the rumors started swirling, with some suggesting realistic proposals, to some making the most absurd.
Vancouver Canucks need to consider making a trade for these three NHL Wingers
With
Frederic not having the best offensive producing season, scoring just 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points, his name is officially on the trade block, and plenty of teams, including the Vancouver Canucks are going to be want to put the effort into landing him.
Frederic is rare combination of physical and finesse, where his edge come from being versatile in any situation, whether it is scoring goals our dropping he mitts.
It is also a major asset that he plays all three forward positions, plays the PK and powerplay.
Carrying only a cap hit of $2.3 million per season, it makes a lot of sense for the Canucks to make a play at him.
A similar player that fits the same mold is Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton.
Just like Frederic, Laughton brings a lot of value from being consistent and also plays all forward positions.
Even though not lighting the lamp offensively, he would provide tremendous leadership to a Canucks team that is missing some guidance and culture.
It would make sense for the Flyers to move on from him now, as his contract is expiring at the end of the season, and his low cap hit should get a strong return.
