Elias Pettersson has halted the extension talks, and it has caused a stir ever since the news broke. The Canucks selected the Swede superstar with the 5th overall pick in 2017, and he's been an essential part of the team's success ever since.

Elliott Friedman had an excellent view of it when he and Elias Pettersson met in Stockholm for an exclusive interview on the NHL's player media tour.

It appears Friedman didn't give everything up straight away. The coloured insider was on Sportsnet650 today and the answer he gave regarding a question on Elias Pettersson's future clearly pointed out what he expected in waiting to ink a new deal:

''How much of Elias Pettersson re-signing depends on team success?

"A lot of it, almost all of it..." - Elliotte Friedman, SN650''

Ever since Rutherford and Allvin took over from Benning, they've made sizeable additions to accrue the teammate's success. From winning the Andrei Kuzmenko derby, to adding in Ilya Mikheyev, to buying out Oliver Ekman-Larsson and making defensive additions, everything points toward brighter days in Vancouver.

However, the team's number 40 wishes to see the team's progression before committing long-term.
