TROUBLE IN PARADISE?
Allvin obviously made a great acquisition with this one, but some things are too good to be true and the honeymoon will end as soon as will Hronek's contract. Playing the last season of a 3-year, $13.2M deal, the right handed Defenseman will be due for a raise and his current play suggests that it'll be massive.
Frank Seravalli was with the analyst at Canucks Army to discuss the subject earlier and dropped a tidy piece of information on the subject and it's enough to give the Canucks' management a fairly good scare:
Allvin has tons of players on ending contracts and millions are expected to be spent. Hronek's extension will most likely be the team's second priority behind Elias Pettersson, but with existing contract issues, how will they manage this one? Elias Pettersson, Teddy Blueger, Sam Lafferty, Dakota Joshua, Tyler Myers, Nikita Zadorov, Ian Cole and to top it off Filip Hronek.
Given that Myers is replaced by a $1M/year player and the cap goes up by $4.5M as advertised by the league, the Canucks will be getting an additional and approximate $9.5M in wiggle room. Pettersson and Hronek will most likely be covering most of that increase. Afterwards, they either re-sign at the same price or else?
