Nearly 24 hours after making a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Vancouver Canucks have announced a roster move involving one of the players they acquired.

In a post on X, the Canucks shared that they've assigned defenceman Akito Hirose to Abbotsford in the AHL and have called up defenceman Mark Friedman.

"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Akito Hirose has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) and D Mark Friedman has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL)."

Friedman, 27, was traded to Vancouver, along with Ty Glover in exchange for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek. So far this season, Friedman has appeared in two AHL games for the Penguins' affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton where he has no point or penalty minutes and is a minus-one.

The Toronto native was originally drafted by Philadelphia in 2014 and has gone on to play in 65 games for the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins where he has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) and 49 penalty minutes.

Friedman could make his Vancouver Canucks debut on Thursday night as they take on the Lightning in Tampa Bay at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.
