LATEST | The NHL just made an announcement acknowledging Quinn Hughes' dominance: He's been named the first star of last week
Every Monday, the National Hockey League announces the three stars from the previous week and today, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes was honoured in a big way for his play on the ice.
On their social media accounts, the NHL shared that Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been named the first star of the week for October 30th to November 5th. In three games during the week, Quinn Hughes managed to put up eight points (one goals, seven assists).
"Quinn Hughes (@Canucks), Cam Talbot (@LAKings) and Mason McTavish (@AnaheimDucks) have been named the NHL's «Three Stars» for the week ending Nov. 5.
⭐ Quinn Hughes led the NHL with 7 assists & 8 points in 3 GP, highlighted by a 1-45 outing where he became the second defenseman in franchise history to record a 5-point contest. He helped the @Canucks (8-2-1, 17 points) to a perfect week." Hughes, 24, is off to a fantastic start to the 2023-24 season and while it's still very early, he's put himself to the forefront of the Norris Trophy conversation with how he's played.
In 11 games, Hughes has 16 points (four goals, 12 assists), eight penalty minutes and is a plus-14. Last week, the Orlando native tied a franchise record for most points in a single game by a defenceman with five during a blowout win over the San Jose Sharks.
Hughes and the Canucks will return to action on Monday night as they host the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena, which marks the third meeting between the two teams this season. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.
