MAJOR | Important declaration from Rick Dhaliwal regarding Cal Foote and the Vancouver Canucks
After signing a one-year deal in New Jersey this summer, it caused a heck of a surprise when it was announced earlier today that Cal Foote, Canucks' assistant coach Adam Foote's son, had been put on waivers.
EVIDENT CONNECTION BETWEEN CAL AND THE CANUCKS
The link between the two parties is evident; Cal, a former first-round pick, definitely fits a need for the Canucks and would be a tremendous addition to the team's young defensive core.
The Vancouver insider Rick Dhaliwal addressed the subject earlier today and confirmed it wouldn't happen. Cal wasn't offered a contract over the summer for the same reasons:
"I checked in to see if the #Canucks would have interest & was told 'this will not be a fit'...having a player with the dad on the staff is an awkward situation...Cal Foote is not going to happen in Vancouver."
It seems that the Canucks aren't ready to look past the fact that a coach could have to deal with his son on the bench despite both being qualified for the job.
Foote is a 6'03'' and 210 pounds right-handed shot defenseman who currently carries a $800K cap hit. Known to excel in shutdown capacities, he could be an excellent suitor to play on Captain Hughes' right. Only 24 years old, he still has much to learn, but the 17th overall pick in 2017 doesn't lack potential.
