Can you imagine if a blockbuster trade reunited all three Hughes brothers? Not only would that make the Hughes brothers' happy, but I'm sure that would excite many hockey fans around the world.

What would a trade between the Canucks and Devils look like to reunite all three Hughes brothers?

Elliotte Friedman had this to say when asked about it on the 32 Thoughts podcast earlier today.
Elliotte Friedman on 32T today:

«I think the #NJDevils know Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes aren't really eager to be traded to the Vancouver Canucks»

Segment is about 1 hr 17 min in.
Jim Rutherford always manages to keep the hockey world buzzing, and he did it again on Monday. During a season-ending press conference, he was asked about the future contract situation of Canucks captain Quinn Hughes a few years down the line. In response, Rutherford made a surprising statement, something many had speculated about, but few expected him to say out loud.
«[Hughes] has said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control if we brought his brothers here.» -Rutherford

Scott Maxwell from the Daily Faceoff writes that the idea of Quinn Hughes joining the Devils feels like the most obvious response to Rutherford's comments on Monday. With his brothers already in New Jersey and the team boasting both the talent and prospect depth to pull off a fair trade, it's a logical fit. And if a deal doesn't happen soon, the Devils could simply wait until his contract ends in two years and sign him as a free agent.
"They're expected to have $31 million in cap space, with only Luke, Simon Nemec, Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen as free agents of significant note over the next two years, so it's not unreasonable for them to pursue that." -Maxwell

Rutherford's comments alone make it pretty clear why the Canucks might consider making a deal. If he's publicly acknowledged that Quinn wants to play with his brothers, it suggests the team might be genuinely worried about his long-term future in Vancouver.
Even if Quinn just casually mentioned that it would be "cool» to play alongside Jack and Luke , the Canucks could be reading deeper into it, possibly seeing it as a major factor that could prevent them from re-signing him when his contract's up in a couple years.
"So if that's the case, the Canucks view acquiring the other two brothers as an insurance policy for Quinn to stay in Vancouver. Maybe it's not something that they have to do, but if this factor puts his future with the team out of their control, acquiring his brothers gives them a lot more control." -Maxwell

But what about the New Jersey Devils...would that even be something they'd ever consider? I guess only time will tell.
