Vancouver Canucks final decision on Rick Tocchet has emerged with record-breaking contract offer
The Vancouver Canucks are leaving Rick Tocchet's future as head coach up to him, as they've offered 2023-24's Jack Adams Trophy winner a contract but chosen not to exercise his team option.

While the Canucks could have exercised head coach Rick Tocchet's contract option and kept him in Vancouver next season, President Jim Rutherford said the team decided not to, and is leaving their head coach's future in his own hands.

Rutherford said the team wouldn't exercise the team option, and that they didn't feel it would be right for the team to hold someone who wants to be somewhere else.
He did however praise Tocchet and his staff for the work they did this season, despite the disappointing results.
We believe, and I believe, that Tocc and his coachig staff did as good a job coaching this team this year as they did last year as coach of the year.
Rutherford said outside circumstances factored into the performance, but Tocchet and his staff handled it well.
Tocchet's decision is expected sometime this week according to Rutherford.
The 61 year old has a 108-65-27 record with Vancouver in 2 and a half seasons.
