Ty Young is set to enter his final year of eligibility in the Western Hockey League and with Joshua Ravensbergen likely to take starting reigns this season in Prince George after the two split duties last season, it leaves the Canucks prospect in a difficult situation.
According to Adam Kierszenblat, Ty Young is not on the Prince George Cougars' training camp roster and if the Coaldale, Alberta native is not traded, he could end up with the Canucks' ECHL affiliate, the Kalamazoo Wings.
Young, 19, appeared in 37 games for the Cougars last season where he had a record of 23-11-2, along with a 2.79 goals against average, a .903 save percentage and one shutout.
It's understandable to see why Young isn't with the Cougars at training camp. Given he's in his final year of junior eligibility, the last thing he wants to do is be a full-time backup and he wants to play. There should be quite a bit of interest from other teams around the Western Hockey League and with the regular season starting in a matter of weeks, he could be on the move relatively soon.
Being traded is the best option for Ty Young at this time, as if he were to turn pro and play for the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL, he would be in a similar situation as he was in Prince George, relegated to a lesser role.
