The Ontario Hockey League's pre-season slate got underway in recent days and on Saturday night, Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson and the Barrie Colts hosted the Oshawa Generals.
With less than 15 seconds remaining in the opening frame, with Barrie up 2-1 at the time, Patterson took the puck on the outside, cut in past a Generals defenceman and put it past Oshawa netminder Noah Bender to extend the Colts' lead to 3-1.
Patterson finished the game with one goal, three shots-on-goal and was 6-for-7 in the faceoff dot as the Barrie Colts took down the Oshawa Generals by a score of 5-4.
It's going to be a big season for the Barrie Colts and are poised to be one of the top contenders not only in the Eastern Conference, but the entire Ontario Hockey League. The Colts' roster is loaded with talent including a number of NHL-drafted prospects - Cole Beaudoin (Utah HC), Beau Akey (Edmonton Oilers), Emil Hemming (Dallas Stars), Tristan Bertucci (Dallas Stars), Brad Gardiner (Dallas Stars) and of course, Riley Patterson.
Patterson and the Barrie Colts will be back in action on Monday night as they host the Owen Sound Attack for their annual Labor Day game. It's unclear if Patterson will be in the lineup since he played Saturday and OHL clubs tend to rotate their lineups during the pre-season, much like they do in the NHL.
Barrie will get their regular season schedule underway on Friday, September 27th as they travel up to Sudbury to take on the Wolves.
