Former Vancouver Canucks forward Peter Schaefer has landed a head coaching gig for the 2024-25 season which will see him remain in Western Canada.

In a post on social media, the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) announced that they've agreed to terms with Peter Schaefer to become their new head coach.

Schaefer commented on his hiring in a press release on the Grizzlys' website, saying that he's looking forward to coaching the team and putting his own stamp on the organization.

"I'm excited to bring my playing and coaching experiences to the Grizzlys organization and look forward to putting together a good team with a great culture both on and off the ice. My vision is to have a team that plays hard, fast, and for each other, for the Grizzlys organization and for the community that supports us. And to develop players that can reach the next level." Schaefer said.

The 46-year-old has two seasons experience as a head coach as in 2013-14 and 2018-19, he was the bench boss for the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League.

In 1995, the Canucks selected Peter Schaefer with the 66th overall pick in the draft and he went on to appear in four seasons with them including a return to Vancouver during the 2010-11 campaign. In 194 games as a Vancouver Canuck, Schaefer had 77 points (37 goals, 40 assists), 52 penalty minutes and had an even rating.
