Rick Tocchet finally had the opportunity to update us on his starting netminder's health issues, which weren't as positive as we'd hoped.
In an interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, the Canucks' pilot revealed that there still wasn't a timeline for Thatcher Demko's return. Despite that, Demko is making daily progress, and at this point, nobody can ask for more.
Connecting the dots, however, the Canucks have ''announced'' that Thatcher Demko wouldn't be a full participant in this year's training camp.
Canucks add another goaltender via a professional try-out
As it was just announced, the Canucks have just added Dylan Ferguson. Patrik Allvin inked the BC native to a professional try-out hoping to fill the 6th goaltending spot in the Canucks' three training camp groups.
Earlier today, Patrik Allvin revealed that if Demko were deemed unfit to participate in the team's training camp, the Canucks would be seeking temporary goaltending options (Dylan Ferguson).
Allvin told Sportsnet if Demko is unable to fully participate at camp, the Canucks have temporary goaltending options lined up so that there are six netminders available to stock the three training groups Tocchet plans to use in Penticton.
Allvin made it clear these options are about filling the roster for training camp and not about another NHL goalie joining the organization.
Demko was a force of nature when healthy for the Canucks this past season, and they'll need him at his best if they have any intentions of making a deep push into the playoffs.
