The Vancouver Canucks were in Winnipeg on Tuesday night to take on the Jets to wrap up a five-game road trip and everyone knew it was going to be a tough night facing one of the best teams in the National Hockey League.
Thanks to a natural hat trick from Kyle Connor and a three-assist night from Gabriel Vilardi, the Jets took down the Canucks by a score of 6-1, jumping the Vegas Golden Knights for first in the Western Conference and are the first team to 30 wins this season.
After the loss, Rick Tocchet met with reporters where he took responsibility, saying that it's his job to get the team committed, while mentioning how hard it is to be consistent on a nightly basis in the National Hockey League.
His contract situation is certainly on Rick Tocchet's mind here in the second half of the 2024-25 season, with the Vancouver Canucks having a mutual option with him for the 2025-26 campaign.
Tocchet guided the Canucks to one of their best seasons in franchise history in 2023-24, but this season, the team has been very inconsistent.
Injuries haven't helped the Canucks' situation, neither has the drama surrounding J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson, two things that are out of Rick Tocchet's hands, but there will need to be a conversation at the end of the season if they do want to bring him back through the aforementioned mutual option.
Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks will look to turn things around on Thursday night as they return to Rogers Arena to take on the Los Angeles Kings, with puck drop set for 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
