LATEST | Blues GM just confirmed it for the Canucks and Pavel Buchnevich
We knew the Canucks were active at this year's deadline. Allvin confirmed it; he was in on just about every big name. In for Jake Guentzel, Tyler Toffoli, and Chris Tanev, but they fell short every time.
One player who surprisingly stayed put was the scoring winger in St. Louis, Pavel Buchnevich. A point-per-game player ever since he joined the Blues, he's been known to perform and play with tremendous physicality when needed.
The Blues' GM, Doug Armstrong, revealed, against all expectations, that nobody even tendered an offer to acquire the winger's services. Despite the many buyers, Armstrong believed that the deals that were offered for other top-end assets like Guentzel weren't right for the Blues and wouldn't have made any sense:
Army: "I undoubted when 'ou see what Edmonton did, or what Vehe'sis doing, or what Vancouver is doing, what Dallas is doing, what Winnipeg did, and Colorado did you're like, 'What is this "uy sleeping? How didn't he get in on these deals?' (MORE)
"But those deals didn't make sense, weren't where we" are today or where we want to get to Why we didn't get assets for certain things, that's a legitimate thing, and, quite honestly, we weren't offered."
Buchnevich, 28, is under contract until the end of next season at a $5.8M cap hit. The Blues were willing to retain up to 50% of his cap hit to juice up the return. Ever since he joined the Blues, Buchnevich has hit what seems to be his full stride, collecting 76 in 73, 67 in 63, and 48 in 62 this year.
