Playing the last season of a $30M deal through five years, there is a lot of doubt regarding the team's intentions and his future. The Canucks will most certainly be looking to re-allocate his cap hit elsewhere, but Myers shouldn't be counted as out so fast.
His agent, J.P. Barry, was on the Donnie and Dhali show earlier and the question regarding his client's future with the Canucks was popped. The response took everyone by surprise, and his agent suggested that there was mutual interest in reuniting both parties next year:
With Elias Pettersson signed at an $11.6M cap hit, Oliver Ekman-Larsson's buyout penalty and the multitude of upcoming free agents looming over the Canucks, it's hard to believe Myers would be way up in Allvin and Rutherford's priorities.
However, the veteran defenseman has grown quite fond of the city and established his young family over the last five years. Would he be open to signing a contract with a significant pay cut? Now 34, Myers has proven to be quite helpful in an isolated penalty killer and third pairing role, would he be open to sign a one year deal between $1M or $2M?
