NHL's Controversial Decision on Yakov Trenin's Punishment Sparks Outrage from Canucks Fans
In a shocking development, the NHL has made their controversial decision on whether or not Minnesota Wild defenseman Yakov Trenin will be facing any supplemental discipline for his sucker punch on Vancouver Canucks d-man Derek Forbort.
During Saturday nights matchup with the Minnesota Wild, the game quickly turned into a physical and chippy contest, resulting in big hits, questionable plays and injuries.
NHL Department of Player Safety Makes their Decision on Yakov Trenin
Although the NHL players police their own game with fights and standing up for each other, there are still unwritten rules that players live by that make the game what it is, one of which Wild defenseman Yakov Trenin broke last night.
In the third period after what was already a chippy game to begin with, Canucks d-man Derek Forbort and Yakov Trenin dropped the mitts in a good tilt.
The incident and controversy erupted when Trenin took extra punches on Forbort when he was down on the ice and defenseless, an unwritten rule during a fight.

As a result, Forbort left the game with a head injury while Trenin received a game misconduct for his actions.
Due to the severity of the situation, the injury to Forbort and the illegal actions, it was almost guaranteed that he would be handed a fairly significant suspension and face a hearing with the department of player saftey.

The fact of the matter is,
After what happened to Filip Chytil a few weeks back, the NHL claims they want to crack down on head injuries and hand out punishments for plays that "don't belong in the game", but this year has proven that the DoPS is not protecting the players.
First Dickinson on Chytil, now Trenin on Forbort. Neither #Canucks player will play again this season because of the injuries sustained. Zero suspensions for Dickinson or Trenin. Hard to have trust in

that they have the best interest in «player safety.»
Both Chytil and Forbort will miss the remaining games of the season and will have rehab through out the summer to recover while the two culprits get off with a slight slap on the wrist... if that.
