With the Vancouver Canucks on a downward spiral and sitting 3 points outside of a wild-card playoff spot, they are tirelessly trying to find the solution to their woes this season.
The team has dealt with countless on ice and off ice issues such as injuries to star players, trade rumors, speculation and drama between team mates Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, and it seems that the only constant is captain Hughes.
What may be the most disappointing result of all of this is that Captain Quinn Hughes is having another potential Norris and MVP Trophy season, which is going to waste with the team unable to put their differences aside to win games.
Quinn Hughes has averaged 25:21 minutes of ice time per game this season, and by okaying almost half the game, he is constantly subject to injuries, especially when being targeted.
The issue is, the deterrent for teams not to go after him is non existent as
Kiefer Sherwood, Tyler Myers, or Vincent Desharnais refusing to step up in defense, it appears the Nucks will continue neglecting his well being.
The time for hypotheticals is not relevant as Quinn Hughes has already missed a handful of games this season with an injury, and with out him in the lineup, the team basically has no shot as winning games.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman commented on the fact that Highes is being targeting and how his teammates refuse to intervene.
Whether it is a culture issue or players just not having the stones to step up when needed, Quinn Hughes needs to be on the ice at all times, and the players around him need to prioritize that.
