NHL makes a statement on Canucks captain Quinn Hughes
The National Hockey League has made a statement through their Public Relations account on X that features Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes.
In a post on their Public Relations account on Friday afternoon, the National Hockey League was highlighting points leaders among defencemen each season, dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.
Last season, as we all know, Canucks captain Quinn Hughes led all defencemen in the National Hockey League in points after registering 92 (17 goals, 75 assists) in 82 games. Hughes' total was the third-highest in the last ten seasons, sitting behind Erik Karlsson (101 - 2022-23) and Roman Josi (96 - 2021-22).
"If a defenseman has a 100-point season in 2024-25, who would be most likely to achieve it?
Blueliners have combined for four 90-point seasons across the last three campaigns: Quinn Hughes & Cale Makar (2023-24), Erik Karlsson (2022-23) & Roman Josi (2021-22). #NHLStats" The NHL said. Last season, Hughes took his game to another level and saw his point production rise by 17.3% from 76 that he tallied during the 2022-23 campaign to 92. In doing so, Hughes set a new Canucks franchise record for most points in a single season, surpassing...himself from the previous year.
Quinn Hughes has the best seasons of his career ahead of him and if he continues to trend in the right direction, as he's been doing since entering the NHL, there's no question that eventually, he'll hit the 100-point mark which has only been reached by six defencemen in league history.
