The San Jose Sharks have been a significant part of the local community in recent years, but now it seems they might be on the brink of relocating.

Although the Sharks joined the NHL in 1991, they didn't begin playing at the SAP Center until 1993. Over the past 31 years, they have called the arena home. However, recent reports suggest that the Sharks might be leaving the SAP Center and San Jose, although their move could be to a nearby location.

According to Insider Sheng Peng, the SAP Center agreement is highly unfavourable for the organization. While the Sharks might leave San Jose, the agreement restricts them from moving far, with potential new homes in places like San Francisco or Oakland. Despite recent struggles on the ice, the Sharks have established a deep connection with the city over the past three decades.

Even if the #Sharks 🇺🇸 have to move out of San Jose due to the new SAP Center agreement, they will remain in the Bay Area.

On July 1st, 2025, the San Jose Sharks' arena management agreement with the city of San Jose changes «unfavorably» for the Sharks, according to the Sharks' president Jonathan Becher.

The top options would likely be San Francisco or Oakland, but the team will push hard to remain in San Jose.

Relocating would be bittersweet for the community. However, given the unfavourable terms of their current agreement, it's understandable why they might seek a new venue. With the Golden State Warriors moving to a new home in San Francisco, there could be potential for the Sharks to find a suitable location there.
