Over the last year, the Canucks announced extensions notable players like Elias Pettersson, Filip Hronek, Tyler Myers and Arturs Silovs. They then spent a load of money on free agency adding Jake Debrusk, Danton Heinen, Daniel Sprong among others.
Heading into the season, they'll have to think about some of their player's contracts about to expire. Two of the team topscorers' contract are nearing expiration, and they just took care of one:
Patrik Allvin just made the announcement that the Canucks had came to an agreement on a three year extension for the young forward Nils Hoglander. The contract will total $9M dollars carrying a $3M cap hit. Given that Hoglander was meant to be a restricted free agent on July 1st 2025, the deal will only start then. Meaning Hoglander will be under contract until July 2028.
The young Swede signed a two year, two million dollar contract during the summer of 2023. Hoglander then came to camp and showed that not only did he belong at the NHL level, but that he deserved to be considered as one of the team's most dangerous goal scorers.
Under Rick Tocchet's guidance, Hoglander improved and took his game up a notch. The Canucks' number 21 scored 24 goals and added 12 assists for 36 points through 80 outings in 2023-2024. He wasn't as productive during the post-season, but still showed promise with 2 points in 11 games.
This contract has the potential to be one of the league's most cost-efficient contract.
