Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks have an opportunity to bring back goaltender Jiri Patera just days after losing him on the waiver wire.
The day before the National Hockey League's roster submission deadline is always a busy one and this year, we saw a total of 59 players land on the waiver wire including some former members of the Vancouver Canucks organization.
However, there is one name on the wire today that was with the Vancouver Canucks less than a week ago - goaltender Jiri Patera. Patera was claimed by the Boston Bruins on October 2nd with the team having some issues between the pipes, as Jeremy Swayman was still unsigned at the time.
Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali pointed out this morning, prior to confirmation of Patera going on waivers, that if the Vancouver Canucks were the only team to put in a claim on the Czech goaltender, they would be able to assign him right to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks without needing waivers again.
The Canucks were reportedly not too happy with the waiver claim of Jiri Patera by Boston last week and it wouldn't be a surprise whatsoever if at 11 am PT/2 pm ET tomorrow afternoon, Patrik Allvin brings him back.
If Allvin's potential waiver claim of Jiri Patera is successful, he could go down to the AHL and form a tandem with Nikita Tolopilo. It would also mean that Ty Young won't need to jump right into the AHL from junior hockey and can work on his craft down in the ECHL with Kalamazoo to start the year.
