Roster Move: Vancouver Canucks General Manager Assigns Rookie Forward to the AHL & and It Looks Like For Good
As the Vancouver Canucks look to turn the page on yesterday's loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, it appears that Patrik Allvin has been pondering his next roster move.
For weeks now, the Vancouver Canucks have been accruing cap space, which will help them when we get closer to the National Hockey League's trade deadline and their ability to add a big name with a larger salary.
Rookie forward Arshdeep Bains was one player who it felt was being sent down and called up between the NHL and AHL every other day, but it looks like it's another's turn.
Patrik Allvin announces roster move involving Max Sasson
In a post on social media on Monday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've sent rookie forward Max Sasson down to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Max Sasson has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL)." the Canucks said.
As expected, this is just a salary cap related move, but Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver believes that the Canucks should leave Max Sasson in the AHL for the time being and call someone else up.
Paterson says that with J.T. Miller coming back soon, this will leave Max Sasson as a healthy scratch and it would benefit him more to get consistent playing time in the American Hockey League.
"likely just a cap move, but I'd consider leaving Sasson in the A this time. If Miller coming back soon, Sasson a likely scratch in NHL. Also, perhaps others on farm to have a look at.
Sasson has been okay, better on wing than at centre. No issue if returns, but think it might benefit him to apply what he's learned in NHL in Abby and get another look later in season" Paterson said.
Sasson, a native of Birmingham, Michigan, made his National Hockey League debut back on November 23rd in Ottawa, where he recorded his first career assist, which was a memory his father Alan won't ever forget, leading to an emotional moment.
"There is no way, That is awesome." Sasson said when seeing his dad's reaction to his first career point.
He went on to add, "That was his reaction to this first NHL point, But I think you could have found a triple-A goal of me with his same reaction.
That's as good as it gets. That's super special. I wouldn't expect anything different."
The Vancouver Canucks return to action on Tuesday night as they host the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Arena. We'll have to wait and see if Max Sasson is called back up before puck drop.
